give birth at home (read all 3 entries…)
met the midwife this morning

she is a great woman with tons of experience.
now hubby is getting a little worried, but i hope it is just a phase. he was very supportive until now, and he was very happy with the midwife and actually very pleased with the fact that she is extremely professional and not a total granola. i think it’s the fact that it becomes more realistic as time passes by and the fact that here in israel the government makes it more difficult both for the women and the midwives, and that the strong common belief is that it is very dangerous.
naturally we won’t do anything that threatens either mine or baby’s health, nor will i make decisions that are not in sync with my DH.

so cross fingers for us? :)

my

newly oven-dandy fingers are crossed for you!

Good for you for making a decision on this. I think it can depend on your local set up – in France they thought you were mad for even asking about it, cos hospital is so good, whereas in the UK, hospital was frowned upon, because there were much better services for home births than there were in the hospital (at least where I was living at the time).

what’s a granola? I have a great image…

WONDERFUL!

How empowering to be making a educated choice for you and your family!

It’s a shame in the U.S. many, many people have to go “underground” to have their baby at home.

That’s where we began having them in the first place :)

My very best to you and wishing you a fantastic and wonderful birth experience!

thanks!

Well, it’s not like it is a well established practice over here either..
We are talking about 2 out of 1000 childbirths, and the fact that it is not (yet?) illegal. In no way is it condoned by either the majority or the system… But one can hope one is making the best choice for him/herself and perhaps even contributing to the future of home births in Israel… :)

again, thank you for the supportive words, and all the best to you and your family as well.
