Me too!

I’m going to adopt this goal too, if I may. I once had a friend who played this instrument well. She and her husband (who played guitar) made magical music together. I love the sound the dulcimer makes, and it lends itself well to music that appeals to me (Celtic, bluegrass, Appalachian…)

thankyou for your interest in this goal

it has made me think that i could do with taking the goal a little more seriously, i did look up on the web a few months ago books about the ol HD but i got no further, will start by looking up on the web this instant where i can buy one and how you might go about learning how to play one… will keep you informed!!

Oh, I'd appreciate that!

I haven’t begun my own research yet. I’m hoping things at work will slow down a bit soon. This is something I’d really like to do, I’ve always regretted not learning a musical instrument.

have you thought any more about this Mr Meister?

just been checking up on my old goals and found you snuggled amongst the comments, how ya doin’?

How odd that you mention this today!

as just yesterday I was in a music store inquiring about getting one. I’m looking for a used instrument (don’t want to pay for new until I see whether I’m suited for it). The shopkeeper had recently sold a used one, and took my name and number in case another comes along.

How ‘bout you, Roo? Making any headway?

Trauma_Junkie is upset over her fever.

my uncle occasionally

makes them, both the hammered and three stringed In fact, I actually made a dulcimer in 7th grade as a music class project (I suppose growing up in Appalachia had something to do with that).
I love the sounds they creat, close to my heart..

i drempt about having one b4 i actually saw one in real life

i have looked up hammered dulcimers on the web, i think there is a guy who makes them about 150miles away in glastonbury, i dont know anyone who plays one, do you know if it is difficult, i dont want to be very good at it, just enough to carry a tune or improvise a folk jamming session!!

a dear friend of mine has played the hammered dulcimer for many years now...

... even when she was just starting out, the music was transporting.

She has her day-job, but when I hear her play… I am always so glad to be alive, to listen and float and relax into the sound.

P.S. Once many years ago she was planning to go to the Britism Isles for July and August to study at the source… she referred to “My dulcimer vacation.” I was totally puzzled… “Why would anyone want to go on a dull summer vacation?”

We still laugh about this.

All by way of saying: great goal, instrument, aspiration, sound. And great joy to you, note by note.

I'm tryin too

My mom made both a dulcimer and a hammer dulcimer many years ago, and i’ve been trying to motivate myself to learn to play. I still have both, but right now they really need to be restrung. I play guitar, so restringing the dulcimer is no big deal, but the Hammer Dulcimer scares the shhh out of me. I can’t even begin to count the strings, let alone think about trying to restring it. It’s ironic that i’m a carpenter/furniture builder and I can’t imagine how she was able to make it. Anyway, Good luck to both of us.

By the way, Here is the self-proclaimed Official World Wide Web Hammered Dulcimer Page
