I’ve lived in Atlanta for a year and a half, but I still don’t feel savvy to the city. I mainly hang out in East Atlanta Village, L5P, or VA Highlands. I’d like to explore downtown some more.

Downtown Atlanta, the exploration
There are a number of excellent walking tour books. However, I would start with a drink at the SunDial to get the big picture. Then go on MARTA and ride to the Garnett Station and walk pass the bail bond places, the braiding places, and before you get to Underground really absorb the atmosphere of the shops, even mini malls selling African goods, dip into Underground for a drink at Kelly’s Alley, try a game of chess in Woodruff Park, then a meal at the Ritz on the balcony. At Peachtree Center see 3 art galleries and at Baker and Peachtree – after you check out Superman in the Liquor Store – up to the Childrens Museum, the Aquarium, across the park and into CNN Center for a tour if you have time. Back to the Rialto for a play or event if one is scheduled…and you have done the day. I would end back at the SunDial for a final look at the city….after dark.
