Great quote from this week. She’s trying to come to grips with explaining racism, homophobia, etc., to her kids—whether or not she should do so, and to what extent—and has a real insight, that I have to agree with:

I can’t help feeling that when you introduce the concept of bigotry it’s as if you’re suggesting that there’s some kind of a debate, with two sides, and you’re on one side, and other people are on the other, to each his own. When there’s nothing debatable, of course. And prejudice is an outrage and cannot be routinely taught along with the life cycles of the butterfly.
