watch more f1 (read all 2 entries…)
Watched 100% of races so far!! 3 years ago

Okay, so only the first week – but it was great fun, and it’s better then past attempts to start watching an F1 season, so this year I can stick with it, and get into it more pro-actively. Even with having to get up at 10:30am on a sunday for the first race wasn’t to much of a struggle!

Great!

So are you rooting for any team or driver in particular?

The Bahrain circuit was quite cool.. but despite that Schumi didn’t have much chance to overtake Alonso. I am not sure if Alonso has the better car as they won mainly on pitstop strategy, I reckon. Still, it was a great race and I thought the “real” winner was Kimi, having come from last on the grid to finishing third, awesome stuff..!

Am sure more drama is yet to come. But I always pray that there’s no mishaps coz that kind of drama always makes me feel sick to my gut worrying what happened to the driver, or sometimes the marshall.. as evident in some of the past mishaps.

Watch out for the Sepang one this weekend! I’m rooting for Schumi and Massa, but Alonso is definitely a young star worth watching out for.

I guess if I’m rooting for anyone, it has to be Button – in true british sporting style, he never quiet makes it all the way to the top but he keeps getting closer – So maybe this will be his year to really be on a competative level with the top guys.

But really, one of the things I like about F1 is that it’s not a team based sport in the way a lot of the more muddy field sports are, sure people have their favorite drivers and teams – but for the most part, everyone is there to watch the race at large, there isn’t so much “us” vs “them” about it.

I was really impressed by Rosberg too, getting the fastest lap and points in his first race, for an underdog team is a great way to start the season, so he’s one to keep an eye on.

Button and Rosberg

I must admit, my F1 trivia is rusty. I haven’t been keeping up since Schumi won the whole thing and then sort of hit a continuous spell of bad luck and just lost his bearings on the championship. So yeah, I am a bit biased in that sense.

Button.. yeah, you nailed it in the head there. He’s good but doesn’t seem to hit right spot yet. Rosberg.. very new, guess he’s prime on scoring a “Weber”, a remarkable debut and winning on home ground not too long ago. We shall see.. definitely a promising season.

As with the last couple of years

I’m supporting Raikkonnen. Although Alonso is a very accomplished driver, for me at least I see even another level that Raikkonnen has beyond Alonso. When a truly quick lap, or series of laps, is needed, Kimi can just relentlessly produce them, whereas Alonso seems to get a bit ragged, as he did last weekend when pushing while Michael was pitting.

Trouble with Kimi is, he has the most godawful luck with his car. Last weekend as a case in point, but he still managed to haul up to 3rd place from last, and make Montoya look pretty ordinary.

Roll on Malaysia :-)

Not got much history to draw on

This is the first year I’ve really made a commitment to watching the whole season, so I don’t really have much of a feel for how each driver performs yet – so it’ll be interesting to see how things shape up.

Thank gods for the internet and the mountain of stats I can reap in at the flick of my wrist and click of a button!! I’ll be up to speed in no time I hope.

And yes, roll on Malaysia – I’m actually getting really excited about it now, I’ve even rearranged my cinema trip to Saturday to make space for the race (Well, the re-run – 5am is a little early for me)

Yeah.. there's something about Kimi

He reminds me of Mika Hakkinen.. very reserved, very cool under pressure and has many surprises up his sleeve. I bet this is the year of the younger drivers, though folks like Schumi, Montoya and Coulthard have experience under their belts which should prove valuable.

Where the Sepang circuit is concerned, the heat will definitely be a factor. We’ve been having some erratic weather lately. It rains quite heavily in the afternoon these past few days, but I hope the weather cooperates this weekend.

Enjoy the race in Sepang! :)

p/s: Ignore the stats on the pic.. a bit outdated, but thot I’d show off our circuit nonetheless ;)
