What an amazing book. I’ve also read Silas Marner, but I don’t remember it as well as the Mill on the Floss. If you like romance, comedy, countrysides, love, passion, honesty, and inner struggles – you will LOVE this book. I’ve always wondered why George Eliot chose to have a pen name. I had an essay in AP English about her and if my Grandmother hadn’t been an Eliot-phile, I would never have known she was a “she”. Thank god for Grandmothers.

Why She Had A Pen Name
In her time women were not allowed to be published like men were allowed to, so her pen name made them think she was a man. Many woman did this back then as well. Hence the saying “Anonymous was a woman” it is quite true. Just thought I’d let you know since it seemed to be important to you back then, though I just read it. ~M
