Comments:
I have eaten this Icelandic shark delicacy..
It’s called Hakarl. It’s putrefied shark meat. It’s buried for six months to putrefy it and remove toxins.
I went to Rekjavik and tried some, super-authentic (Theres a little hut near the shoreline, walk in there and your confronted with real old sea dogs with cracked faces and gravelly voices!).
They cut me a piece, I tried it… and almost threw up immediatley. I didn’t though, to save face in front of the old timers (who were doing much grinning and pointing as I tried it). They gave me a shot of ?Brannevin? I think it was, traditional Icelandic schnapps made from ?something? berries. Thats was nice, the Hakarl wasn’t!
It tastes just like you buried a piece of fish for 6 months, then ate it.
