always have liquor stocked at home (read all 3 entries…)

Worth doing!

The sign of an alcoholic?  — 3 years ago

True, this might be giving away more information that I should be sharing in this public forum of goals and aspirations, but keeping four or five bottles of liquor on hand at home does make me incredibly happy. The bottles are so nice, and their flavor so smooth. I love making my own drinks. Anyway, this goes along with my theme that my home should strive to resemble as closely as possible a nice dark and cosy bar (I’m thinking of an Alibi Room-esque bar). I even want those little bar tables if possible. A bartender (that also served as bouncer and dj) would top it off and send me into home life nirvana.

woo hoo!

Speaking as a fellow future member of AA, I definately would encourage this goal:)

Now the question is- what kind of liquor to stock? It’s kind of like having a few basic items of classy clothing that go well with anything….

This is what I got this morning...

  • Sapphire
  • Tanqueray
  • Skyy
  • Absolute
  • Makers Mark

This is my first time with Tanqueray and Skyy (I like the bottles) but I figure that since I’m having guests over next week that I can afford to be a little indulgent. The other three are frequent guests in my house though not recently.

Do you have any favorites that I’ve missed? I still need to get lemons, limes, tonic, soda, and little plastic monkey adornments.

I recommend Ciroc

It’s very tasty. You might want to try it in a bar first, but it’s got a hint of grape. I’m a big fan.

Cool, thanks for the tip! Just curiously, how do you pronounce this grape-hinting vodka so I don’t make a fool of myself at the bar? Sheer-roque!

Chuq (username: yakuza) I have soft feet now

interesting question

I’ve heard “sir-rock” and I’ve heard “sher-rock”.

I say sher-roq, and since:

It sounds more sophisticated
If I say it with confidence, the person will know what I’m talking about
The sales rep for Ciroc that introduced it to me said it that way

So mostly for reason number 3. Although my friend is saying it’s pronounced “see-roque” (as in baroque).

It’s great as a straight up martini. Very smooth. In fact, now I want one.

Also

Little umbrellas and twisty straws are a nice touch.

I’ve always WANTED to have a fully stocked bar at all times but for some reason I can’t keep anything on hand for more than a day or so… Hmmm.

Bartender/DJ

I could be your bartender/dj, but you’ll have to get a real bouncer. Don’t think I could bounce anyone too well.

I'll drink to that!

I do have to say thats a cool goal. We have a bar at home thats fully stocked. And its fun, friends always wanna come over and we have great bar stools. So cheers to this goal.

I also saw that you wanna make great meals. One bottle that would great for both goals is Chambord. Its rasberry flavored and makes wonderful sauces for chicken or duck and is great for mixed drinks.

With all that liquor at home...
