paint my wall blue (read all 3 entries…)
The painter called. 4 years ago

The painter guy sounds great from our short phone conversation this morning. He’s going to go to El Greco and check out the color and match it for me. He may also buy my Lowe’s gift certificate from me since the paints aren’t going to cost anywhere near $500. Also, he said he’s not afraid of heights so there will be no fear of dying when painting the main big wall. I’m excited… but still wavering on the idea of the pink wall. Maybe orange instead?

pink and blue harmonize well

Hooray for painting walls! Seriously, white is boring and paint is the cheapest per-square-foot improvement you can make to your abode.

But I digress. Don’t be afraid of pink. Pink and blue harmonize very well together. Maybe some education about color theory will improve your confidence. Start here:

The trick with pink and blue is to avoid shades which look like a child’s nursury (i.e. pastels). What you want are bold colors, for the bold urbanite that you are.

Once you’ve found the shades you think are winners, buy little cans of them and a couple sponge brushes and paint big swatches (at least a foot square) on the candidate walls. Stare at it for a couple days, in different light and in different moods. If you don’t love it, try a new shade. These little experiments are very easy for a painter to paint over once you find the winning colors.
