Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

My 707th and Final Gratitudes on 43Things

It is with a heavy heart but a truly grateful spirit that I commit to this site this final entry of things for which I am grateful:
1. I am grateful for 125 cheers for my “Convince My Husband that Geeky and Cute Are not Mutually Exclusive Goal.”
2. I am grateful for the beautiful, the wise and wonderful, the smart, the witty, the complex, the loving, the supportive people I have met here on 43T.
3. I am grateful for the camaraderie that we have shared here, even until the last minute.
4. I am grateful to have a record of some of the happiest and some of the most difficult times of my life because I recorded them here.
5. I am grateful for having this wonderfully safe place to deposit my rage and my misery and my angst about being a stepmother and about the despicable man and about the time in the dark woods with a very difficult employee and about all the other things that would have kept me up at night but for having found a place to safely put them.
6. I am grateful for having this wonderfully joyful place to deposit my joys and silliness and my hopes so that when I am filled with rage, misery and angst, I can always be reminded that there is something more.
And I am most deeply grateful for finding out that reflecting on the multitude of things for which I am grateful is the best therapy in the world. This practice is now a core part of my being and it will remain so forevermore.
Thank you 43Things. Thank you wonderful cheerleaders. Thank you dear friends who I have never met. I will go to bed now with a grateful heart but a tear rolling down my cheek, knowing that when I awake in the morning, this place will be like an old chalkboard in a long abandoned schoolhouse…carrying the dusty impressions of words recorded long ago, never to be written on again.

Todd Schoonover will miss all his 43T friends
