Todd Gehman funemployed for the summer
This was very fun. Meeting locals definitely gave us a better perspective on Montréal, and we managed to learn a whole heap about Canadian politics as well. And Emacs. And the history of the Plateau district. And video games. And linguistics. And recommended dive bars in the area. I believe various forms of suicide were also discussed, but only in the third person; everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Beforehand, La Cabane was either amused or annoyed when I had to tell them that 32 people had RSVP’d for the gathering, but since it was over the internet, I actually expected anywhere between zero and twenty of them to show. I think we got a dozen locals visiting over the course of the evening, which ain’t too shabby. They all seemed smart, earnest, politically aware, and fun…which is a pretty good set of attributes to bring to a meeting of strangers. Here’s who made it, in order of appearance. Cool peeps!
