Actually, ... 3 years ago

I’m actually only planning on climbing 49 state highpoints- I’ll visit Denali Nat’l Park in Alaska, but no way am I going to attempt THAT peak!

Guadalupe Peak

When you get ready to hike to the highest point in TX, let me know. It is a great hike through the desert.

Guadalupe Peak

is a great hike! I’ve done it twice, but it’s been a long time, and I certainly wouldn’t mind doing it again.

The first time was in ‘79, up the old trail, which was rocky and tough. The second time, in ‘81, was up the current trail and was much more enjoyable.

I’ve always wondered if it would be reasonable to get over to the top of El Capitan from the Guadalupe summit. I’ve never heard of anyone doing it, but it doesn’t look too bad.

You have some great goals too :) I’d love to do the Narrows and Angel’s Landing the next time I get back to Zion.

At this point I don’t have a trip to Texas planned this year, but if you make it back up this way this summer, let me know if you’d like to do some hiking. Here is my contact info if you’re interested.

The pic

didn’t post again! Here’s the one that was supposed to be attached.

Great pic!

I loved the Guadalupe Peak hike. I did it on May 18 (I think) last year. I will do it again sometime this year.

Angels Landing was one of the most pivotal hikes of my journey.

I want to do The Narrows from the top down, camping at site#8 overnight. But, I don’t want to do a backcountry hike without a partner and I am having a hard time finding one who is experienced in backcountry hiking who WANTS to hike The Narrows.

TG

I don't have

a lot of canyon hiking experience, but I’m pretty sure that I could handle this ;) I’ve done a lot of solo hiking but I agree about having a partner- I don’t like to go alone on more difficult or remote hikes.

Are you trying to do this hike this year?

BTW, cool pic on Guadalupe! I actually “borrowed” mine from Google- none of my old pics are digitalized yet.

The Narrows

I hiked The Narrows from the bottom up and then back down last summer. But, yes, this summer I want to do the backcountry version. There are a lot of things I want to do this summer, so I am having to consider carefully.

For SURE I am going to Crazy Woman Creek for some time alone.

For SURE I am going to camp on the prairie three times this spring.

For SURE I am going to eat raw oysters and drink beer.

For SURE I am going to finish this book so I can focus on working with the copy editor and the design team on the first one.

For SURE I am going to take one remote/backcountry hike. The hike to Jordan Hot Springs in the Gila Wilderness is calling my name, but it isn’t a good hike for a woman alone. After all, I am just a “little girl” (tongue firmly in cheek).

Thanks for the suggestion :)

I have hiked Black Mesa, the highpoint of Oklahoma, in October of 2006. While it certainly isn’t a “climb,” I think that “A toddler could reach it on a bad day” might be a bit exaggerated ;) It’s about a 8-mile roundtrip hike. Nothing spectacular, but it was an enjoyable hike that took me about 4 hours, including an hour or so on top. I’ve also been to the Kansas & Nebraska highpoints (both of which are just drive-ups).

I haven’t kept up with entries on this goal at all. Partly that’s because I’d like to post entries in the order that I completed the highpoints, and my old photos are packed away (and not digitalized). My first state highpoint was over 30 years ago so it’s going to take a bit of digging to find those photos! I’ll get around to it someday :D

Tiger is going to get through December if it kills her

Oh?

And what is it you were doing in that hour?

TG

Nope

Actually, besides resting a bit and having something to eat, I spent most of the time cleaning out the summit register- some slobs had left a bunch of trash in it.

Tiger is going to get through December if it kills her

Yeah, Uh-huh...

I’ve heard about what climbers do at the summit.
And I know you.

;)
