Rails is a bliss, I’ve tried it (did the todo-list example) and it works just fine. Then the downside: my ISP doesn’t support Ruby. Anything I do, will stay on my PowerBook…

Don’t you mean your webhost? If that is the case perhaps you should try chaning hosts, I am with Dreamhost and they do offer ruby on rails and have very good offers at the moment!.
