find the lyrics to all the songs I love
Untitled

This is something I do all the time. Hooray for Google. Radio used to drive me insane not knowing the lyrics.

I’m still looking for the lyrics to Anika Moa’s new single ‘In The Morning’, which I’ve only heard once, but maybe they’ll come out when the album launches.

Update: Haven’t found the lyrics, but at least found a clue as to what it’s about. http://board.muse.mu/archive/index.php/t-10588-p-6.html

All I ever wanted was to be near a face /
In the morning, in the morning /
After the operation my heart will become erased /
And I will miss you, I will miss you

Being a male geek, of course my first thought was science-fiction ‘Eternal Sunshine’ style memory erasure, not abortion.

Comments:

I am still waiting for lyrics to ‘In The Morning’ – Well, I only heard about Anika Moa three days ago, when a friend from New Zealand gave me Stolen Hill.

I could relate and understand ‘In The Morning’ the first time I heard it. It is an honest and moving song, there should be more songwriters like this. Taboo subjects have been in the dark for too long.

I would love to find the lyrics to the song.

Lyrics

Now that I’ve got the CD, the best I can do is try to transcribe. I think these are the words. They don’t parse exactly but then a lot of songs don’t.

All this conversation has lifted my spirits
I will go to the park to make up my own mind
Silly silly future it sits inside my spine
It will make a family resolved in your own kind

All I ever wanted was to be near a face
In the morning, in the morning
After the operation my heart will become erased
And I will miss you, I will miss you

Beat beat beat beat that’s all I ever do
I’ve built in some room for everyone to frame
I’m so lucky to have a great career
But after all the fuss I just wanted to have you

All I ever wanted …

I haven’t thought enough to cry, oh
No I haven’t thought enough to cry, yeah

All I ever wanted ..

I haven’t thought enough …

All I ever wanted…

For extra credit, figure out what the title song ‘Stolen Hill’ is about:

And to save you for something
You could watch me die
And love this world without me on this stolen hill
I would multiply
Into a thousand words
And fill your heart and come back to you and tell you to move on

(A happy little love ballad or a song about a murder/suicide?)

Hmmm ...

I thought it might actually be:

“Bleed, bleed, bleed, bleed that is all I ever do”

and then the next bit is tricky ..

“A built in sun room for everyone to frame”?

Your transcription seems more logical with that line though.

Now Stolen Hill .. yeah it seems like some suicide song. My friend from NZ who gave me the CD said it has something to do with the Maori landrights issue. I don’t know much about that though.

I emailed Anika Moa with the address on her website asking for the lyrics of ‘In The Morning’ but I didn’t get a reply .. :(
