I want to always be able to get up and go! Whether I’m thinking of taking a shot at creating something, learning some new programming skill, meeting someone, or just going to an interesting place or event I’ve never been to before, I just want to be ready to get up and do it. Life is short and there are many opportuninties out there for the taking.

beat social anxiety
I wanted to make a comment about it.
You can beat and I don’t think its that difficult. But you do need to learn some skills and techniques and practice regularly.
First I suggest you take up meditation and dedicate yourself to it religiously, though I am not advocating anything esoteric. Develop awareness and mindfulness and calming and relaxation techniques. Find a good book to get yourself going. You may have to read several.
Secondly, with professional help, I know you can get on top of this. Maybe you have that already. Recenlty on the radio i heard on our psychiatrists talking about a web program they run. Its in Australia but it has quite a bit of success with people who have social phobia.
Anxiety is anxiety whatever way it manifests itself. Anxiety is very treatable but you need to find an expert. I believe group work can be helpful with this too. In a group you all have the same problem so that at least makes this particular group less frightening to be amongst at least, doesn’t it.
anyway all the very best of luck with your efforts.

careful
Psychiatrists are now trying to sell drugs for “social anxiety disorder.” It’s actually a “disease” that the pharmaceutical industry invented – they’ve even admitted it – so that they could create, and market, a treatment. I am not making this up.
Shyness and timidity are aspects of who some of us are; they are not diseases to be managed. If there are aspects of these that you would like to change, so you can grow as an individual, I agree, recognize them, think well about yourself, maybe even talk to a counselor. But don’t let anyone tell you you’re sick so they can sell you a drug.

Many people are incorrectly paranoid about these drugs.
Actually, for some people certain types of antidepressants are very helpful with anxiety disorders.
But the program I mentioned above is CBT and therefore not a drug therapy at all.

"incorrectly paranoid"?
what about the suicide risks?
CBT is great, I agree. But I don’t believe we have a complete picture on the risks and benefits of antidepressants, and I think it’s only fair for people who are thinking of taking them to be aware of the whole story. Caution is absolutely warranted. I doubt that informed decisionmaking happens very often, as not only psychiatrists but primary care docs are prescribing them widely, and of course patients are seeking them out because of the direct-to-consumer advertising.
And as I said, shyness is not a disease.
