for a skinny scarf? something easy but cute (not 1×1 rib, for example).
gotta finish it in a week, with time out for, uh, like my job and stuff.

you don’t need to use ribbon yarn, either. I made one using really fuzzy (but not fun-fur) novelty yarn, and another using yarn that is a lot like soft rope.
A diagonal scarf maybe?
I made this one after I saw it demonstrated on the show “Knitty Gritty”. Mine is made of a fluffy but not actually furry yarn (Allure-I think) and alternate stripes of a multicolor ribbon yarn. Both carried up the side as the piece is knitted. It looks marvelous and worked up very fast.
