Starting by writing what you want (even if not published) is a big start! Go for it. If you are wanting to just be published and looking for places to write for. writersdigest.com is a great resource and some websites that publish poetry etc.

Searching the web is a huge resource. I have a ton of printed off resource material from the net. I just have to get motivated to actually submit.

Womans world magazine accepts personal stories, romance and mystery stories, pick up one of their magazines it has all the details!
