use Linux exclusively at home
Untitled 3 years ago

Right now I have my Dell Inspiron set up with Ubuntu and Windows because I was afraid to switch all the way. It’s partitioned half and half, 10GB each. I would go 100% over to Ubuntu except I can’t figure out how to install things on it!! Therefore I’m limited to the default programs that come on the CD. I probably should just get a book on this but I guess I’m not motivated enough yet.

It’s supposed to be as easy as Windows but I’m totally baffled when it comes to installing anything on it. :/ Would love some guidance so I can complete this transition!

Synaptics Package Manager

Try clicking on the “Synaptics Package Manager” under Administration in the menu. You’ll be asked for your password, then given a massive list of software you can install with a click or two. You can browse by keyword search, source, category, etc. It’s all at your fingertips and painless to install.
