get a therapy dog certification for my dog
Take that therapy dog certification class

And then start taking waverly to the rest home down the street. Or other places. But do some service work and share the waverly love.

Comments:

My mom’s dog is a therapy dog. He got his picture in the paper for it! (they live in a small town.)

Trauma_Junkie thinks she may have had a touch too much caffiene...

an Excellent goal.

I always wanted both of my dogs to get certified, but one was still struggling with basic obedience- she did great around people and such, but got nuts in a class of other dogs. and the other- I just never got aorund to it. Now, i travel too much to keep pets- so I just go and walk the shelter dogs…
I used to love to see the therapy dogs come into the hospital- remember they are super good therapy for the staff as well as the patients. :)

Thanks for the encouragement...

... it’s good to hear there’s a double benefit from a therapy dog (patients AND staff). I continue to pass the rest home every day and often remind myself of this goal. My dog is a “love magnet” who should be shared!

therapy certificied

Hi, Could you please tell me how to get my Rat Terrier certified as a therapy dog. I ask my doctor about this as he keep my blood pressure down and she told me to look online. Some one told me that all I would need is a written perscription for him to be with me. Can you help me on this.
Thank you,
Cheryl

Therapy dog certification

Hi Cheryl,

My understanding is there’s a short training program. Upon completion
of the program your dog is certified as a therapy dog. The point of
the therapy dog program in not to certify your dog for your care, but
for you and your dog to go into places like hospitals and nursing
homes to provide healing animal interaction.

The Delta Society seems to be the leading therapy dog program. Here’s
a link to therapy dog classes:

Perhaps you are looking to have your dog certified as an attendent, so
that you can take him/her with you into “no pets allowed” places? I
don’t know anything about that, although I imagine it would require a
more rigorous training program.

Hope this helps.

my greyhound is a therapy dog in the sense that he passed the TDI test, but he’s still a bit high strung in new surroundings…so he’s never actually ‘done his job’! Good luck with the training, we had alot of fun in the classes!

This is a great goal! I’d join too, but I think I should probably start with “get a dog” :)
