Learn American Sign Language

Worth doing!

Private Lessons  — 2 years ago

I currently teach private ASL lessons and have been training beginning interpreters. If you are interested, feel free to contact me. I am getting things together for a summer and fall session. (Spring session is almost finished)

I am in the SW Houston area. Also if you are further out, I may be able to help you find someone near you.

Got Advice on Teaching Private Lessons?

Hi,

I read your comment about how you give private lessons in sign language. I’m also interested in possibly doing this. My background is that I was a middle school deaf education teacher for 4 years (I didn’t teach this year). I’m also in Texas (Central Texas), but I taught in the greater Houston area.

I’m curious about particulars like… how did you get started?... how did you pick a curriculum?... how do you know how much to charge?... etc.

I do not have a certification in interpreting, but that’s another idea I’ve been tinkering with… but the programs I have researched are an hour away.

Any advice you can give would be welcomed.

Thanks!
VivaM

slow response

I am so sorry it has taken me this long to respond.
We have a High Risk pregnancy with twins and I have neglected a lot of e mails. We are due Friday, July 7.

I haven’t forgotten, but I also havent had a chance to sit down and answer all of your questions.

Pray for us on Friday,
Thanks!
Tony
