I must admit I am crazy for London. I lived there for 6 years and loved (nearly) every minute of it. Of course I missed my friends from back in Canada and new friends – especially British friends were hard to make at first. But alas I find myself back in Canada and missing London and I would like to return.

Which Bits?
I’m interested in which bits you are missing. It is horribly hot here at the moment. The tubes are packed with perspiring people – there are posters reminding us to take a bottle of water in case we keel over. They are raising the congestion charge and have the bright idea of raising the train fares during peak times to see if it will put people off travelling during peak times. The NHS is dire. Yob culture is taking over and the tv is crammed with those reality shows. Maybe we can swap coutries?????
Most summers, when I lived in London, I returned to our cottage. Right on the water’s edge – very idyllic. I never have experienced London when it was as hot as it is now! I agree when it is this hot the tube would be ‘nasty’!
NHS when I was there was frustrating but here as well our OHIP system is in need of some serious attention. We have all the ‘American’ reality shows here too! Terrible viewing – a complete waste of time.
What I miss -
Driving is way better in the UK. The motorists are much more polite and I think generally better drivers (I am still not sure about the white vans though). A drive in the country side is a real pleasure.
I miss the country pubs – I took in many following the recommendations of the pub guides and friends.
I miss the culture of history – Canada generally is not mature enough yet for serious history buffs.
I miss the antique markets – even though my purchases were modest at best.
I miss the city pubs – nothing like spending times with friends in the court yards in the evenings.
I miss the awesome museums – my favourites are the Courtaul and Soane.
I miss the galleries – the tate Modern is eclectic but the glass of water posing as an oak tree—need I say more.
I miss Opera in Holland Park.
I miss the entire transportation system – what we have here is pathetic and encourages everyone to use their car.
I miss round-a-bouts! Seriously, the 4 ways stops here make travelling so slow!
I miss the London cabs! Seriously!#
I could go on and on.
Yob culture is everywhere I am afraid – even here; however, we have not yet banned hooded sweaters or baseball caps.
Wouldn’t you miss Tony if you were to come. Also – you would miss your football I am sure.
Try to keep cool during this heat wave! Keep drinking that bottled water!
Eeeeeeek
Honestly I wouldn’t miss Tony. Maybe we could work out some type of exchange – anything to keep him and Cherie out of the way of politics. You certainly got around while you were over here – in the nicest possible way. When you have lived in London all your life you tend not to visit the places you should see. I take my son to the Science Museum and the Transport Museum. We’ve been to the Aquarium and the Zoo and the Theatre. We’ve been on the London Eye three times and to the Dome – ha ha. We went to the top of the CN Tower while in Toronto and it was out of this world. High places are thrilling and terrifying at the same time. The reality shows on tv are all sadly homegrown so I can’t blame the US for them. One of them – The Farm – which I didn’t watch showed a Z-list celeb helping to – er – relieve a pig. You couldn’t make it up as they say. We have dozens of magazines dedicated to revealing the lives of these dubious celebs. The heatwave was not so hot today. I am drinking lots of bottled water. By the way – can’t stand footie. Wimbledon was great today but all of our guys and galls are now out. As usual.
