well...

it’s a working name, anyway. There is actually already an intentional community in Tennessee called The Farm. (Home of the esteemed Ina May Gaskin. one of my heros.)
This farm is a long-held dream my sister and I share. Combining our passions, it will include an artist retreat (mine) and programs for troubled kids (hers) as well as an actual farm, CSA style (ours). Who knows when we will actualize it. Maybe it’s just a dream, but you gotta have a dream, right?

That’s a beautiful and important thing to work towards.

Thank you.

We have a long way to go…

the farm

Sounds great. I had a plot of land in my family in the woods about an hour north of St Louis, and I always wanted to create a summer camp that would focus on creative expression. My first thought was poetry, but I think a variety of arts is essential. As a teacher, I feel one of the places which students are weak, helpless, or disabled (for the lack of a better word) is that of individual identity. I think empowering individual students with their identity(ies) and the understanding that they as individuals are unique being who do have something new and fresh to say can really give them direction and purpose. My family sold the land this past month. But I only told two people my plans. Well, sign me up for the farm. For now, I think sharing the ideal is the beginning. Our mutual communication and cheers can keep us inspired. By the way, I like some of your images. Is this your art?

Ina May Gaskin

I knew we had like hearts. How often do I hear people who know who Ina May Gaskins is?

heavy contented sigh

I had that feeling too J

You are a seeker.

Spiritual Midwifery is one of my all-time favorite books. I discovered it in grad school when I was researching for a paper on birth imagery, and was wholly inspired.

Wow.

Have you been there?

As I understand it

It does still exist, but it has evolved. It is still an intentional community, but less insular. (and I guess some of them shave now.)
