get a part-time job - or not (read all 2 entries…)
get a part-time job 3 years ago

or maybe not.
Boss already gave me work to do.
And, above all, she recommended me to another Possibly Boss. The job would be to read screenplays in english (15 of them, before the 20th of June) for some German Institute. I have an appointment tomorrow, we’ll see.
The funny part is that Boss forwarded me the email she and Possibly Boss have had with each other. So I know now what Boss thinks of me.
It seems that I’m too enthusiastic about the films-to-be (as in not enough critical), but fortunately I do great synopsis and my screenplays analysis are brilliant. Phew.

Des is slowly regaining her sanity (unfortunately?)

Oooh, so...

...you got an inside peek! Fun!

Yes, it is :)

So I’ve had the interview today, and it went well.
Actually, it wasn’t really an interview. In the french cinema industry, when you’re recommended by someone of the cinema industry, noone asks you a resume or to prove you’re the right guy for the job. You’re just hired, and if you do some good job, people keep make you work.
It’s as easy as putting a knife in some warm and soft butter, to sort of use a french way of speaking. Cinema people are cool people. There are flaws with it (though I don’t see where, but I’m still fresh in that career), but mostly sunny sides.
So. I have 4 screenplays to read and comment within the end of the week for New Boss. I’ll have more to read the next week.
It’s screenplays in english, coming from South America, Middle West, Africa, and Asia (like Kirghiztan), for a german film commission. I’m currently reading a turkish one.
And, for once, they are to be read , not on the laptop screen (for Earth’s sake), but in actual paper (for my eyes’s sake)!
New Boss said my job is to read for this german commission and that’s all and over, but if things go well, she can make me work in the future.
The only cloud in this frame is that New Boss is all in very “author” cinema. Very intellectual, very “ethnic”, very noone-watched-it movies, much more than Boss. And way more than me.
But hey. It’s good news. I even managed to get more paid by New Boss, not much more but still, héhéhé. I’m not bouncing only because I’m pretty tired.

More money is always useful! Hope the screenplays are interesting to read.

They are :) Thanks, dear denises

I hope you must not read too many intellectual ethnic noone-watched-it movies…

Yes, they are. But they are mostly great. They are both. No one will watch them in France / they are great.
I’m happy I’m not the one who will chose Who Amongst Them Will Have The German Money.

I’ve met New Boss today to give her back the screenplays I’ve commented, and take new ones. I’ve 7 of them (long ones), to read and comment before next friday. (She thinks I’ve done great job, she sweet pea.)
So lemme tell you, real life friends, I’ll be not very visible on the next week.

Good for you !

And, well, we real life friends will try to manage…

do you

survive ?

I

hardly do… But I’m fighting…

I don’t really.

I über-rule.

18 long and complicated screenplays read, summed up and commented in 14 days (saturdays and sundays included). That, my friends, is a full time job, at least for now. I’m a screenplays reading marathonian.
I have one more to sum up and comment, and one other note to über check, and I guess I needed this little moment of auto-congratulation.
Well, back to work.

Excellent!

Are the screenplays entertaining at least? Is there some enjoyment of the reading, or are you thinking of it as only work to do?

I love my job, so the more I have to read and analyze, the better I feel. It’s always an enjoyment, though the screenplays from New Boss are not exactly entertaining.
They mostly come from Middle East (though I’ve read some from Argentina, Mexico, Nigeria, and South-Africa), and they mostly talk about the Gulf wars. From a very interesting point of view, not very much heard (to say the least) in this side of the world.
They all are dramas. They are all sad and though, but also all contain a little bit of hope. A fragile light.
All of them are already produced, and most of them will make excellent movies. I’m very lucky.

Congratulations.

When you’re really done, I’m sure you’ll also need a little moment of Coffee with Friends. Won’t you?

I will, dear.

Congratulations

I hope you enjoy it and they continue to give you more work!

thanks, ciscott :)

I hope too, indeed :)

Oops.

New Boss gave me a bonus screenplay to read and comment within the week-end. I sent her my note saturday night. I was supposed to give back the screenplay this morning (she left Paris to Berlin around noon), but I didn’t have any news from her yesterday, so I totally forgot.
She left Paris without the kyrgyzian script. Making a mistake just at the last possible time… all me. Damn.

I understand you're cringing,

but hey, you did the job, that’s what matters most.
She has your notes – what she’ll read. She needs them more than the script, which she paid you to read in her stead.

yay !

I’ll see New Boss tomorrow. She has work to give me. My Faulty Damn Internet Connection may be really handicapping these next days…

Curlychaos SoapDragon is sending lots of love and support to Brightthunder

That`s great!

Congrats! :)
And all my symapthy with the internat hardships, I know the feeling! ;)

If you need to use my computer,

just tell me.

I’m not crazy.
Instead, I may need your internet access.

Grmble.

NP, one point.

The question is, when?
