stop being afraid of the dentist (read all 3 entries…)
I'm STILL scared shitless 3 years ago

I cracked and lost a tooth 6 months ago playing field hockey. And even though there’s a huge gap where the tooth used to be, I still can’t go. I started hyperventilating just talking to the receptionist on the phone.

Here’s the fear: I haven’t been in a long time. So long in fact, that I am afraid of what they will find. So it leads some anxiety, because what if they do find something? Something that I can’t afford to pay for?

I used to be afraid too!

But then I found a dentist here in Toronto who made me feel so comfortable that I actaully look forward to seeing him! Well, except for when the bill comes…but I am lucky I have some coverage from my dental plan at work. I think a lot of dentist nowadays are really very friendly and understand that many ppl are afraid and have anxiety attacks about seeing them. I can assure you that most of the new crop of dentists are well aware of our phobias and they have a lot of techniques for detal phobes like us! Whn i had to have a root canal (i can see you shivering already!), my dentist put me to lseep and when i woke up from the procedure i had no pain whatsoever! Of course my lip felt like it had been puched a zillion times and swollen like a water melon..but that was just the feeling…upon closer inspection in the mirror I realized it was just the feeling from freezind my mouth. It was all good! I was groogy for a few hours and he did ask someone to come and drive me home. When I got home I did go to sleep it off…so u need a day off for sure! My point is, you have no fear anymore. Of course you are afraid of the cost, but a lot of dentist have payment plans. I think having a nice smile is so important..it really boosts your self esteem. At least you won’t have to worry about if someone is looking at your tooth or not! You are already so beautiful, a beautiful smile will make you absolutely gorgeous! You know what? You can always make an appointment and get an estimate. The longer you wait, the more complicated things will get and the more costly for you and your mouth in the long run! One less thing to worry about, right? If the cost thing is bugging you, perhaps you can check for any dental schools in your area, they are always looking for people that their students can “practice” on. Please go…you won’t regret it! Let me know how things go…ok?
