How do you compensate interviewees if at all  — 2 years ago

I have plenty of ideas for documentaries but how do you negotiate with some of the subjects when you have lil money

LOL wishful thinking some of my subjects or rather objects of study are children of people who were wronged so you may have a point but with the sucess of documentaries nowadays cats want bread

How's it going with this?

I’m very new to the doc world yet to continue what Kyoken said—negotiate up front two points: the amount + your absolute control over the project including the depiction of their interview. If the interview subject insists on viewing the project prior release, agree up front but again, underscore your leadership in the project. I suppose that lends itself to really building trust w/ those you interview huh… (might try Rosenthal’s “Writing, Producing….Documentary Films”. Good luck in getting your project off the ground. It took me a while to get the nerve but my first doc project is in motion. Comments from folks at 43Things are always welcome. Feel free seeing the first teaser trailer & interview clip at http://livingwithgeeks.blogspot.com/ if you ever have interest to view or comment.

Don’t stop thinking about your idea. Best…JMF
