...so I decided to do something about the constant panic in airplane. I always managed to fly and never avoided it but I was just paralyzed for the duration of the journey.
So I did therapy (not only because of my fear of flying but also because of depression and problems causing it) and it worked. Now I’m having simple tools how to cope (right breathing: concentration on breathing out and not breathing in, a glass of red wine,1/2-1 pill of Temesta if needed just before going inside the plane, keeping flight journal, listening to iPod, repeating “mantras”like “turbulence is a nuisance but nothing dangerous”, “I have heard this noice at least 1000 times before, it’s nothing” etc.) and I’ve actually started to almost enjoy the flying.
A webpage I find really useful and read everytime before I fly (start a week before and read every evening): www.fearofflying.com. It’s a bit silly with the flight captain being your buddy etc. but I find the exercises and explanations brilliant.
I even saw one episode of Lost where they were showing the plane crash and I could (unlike before) just watch it coolly and state: this is SO not realistic, airplanes just don’t drop out of the skies like that (in the webpage I mentioned before there’s even explanation why :-)
