Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

run a 5k (read all 6 entries…)
Untitled

Well I started towards my goal of running a 5K today. I feel kind of silly because I am so incrediably overweight and out of shape that I walked a mile today and my joints, feet, hips and shins hurt the whole way. I know it will get easier if I stay with it. I am not sure I could walk 5K at this point in my life much less run it. I am so excited about this, when I complete this, it will be an amazing accomplishment for me!!!! By the way, if anyone has suggestions for me on how to start this being I am so heavy and out of shape, I would appreciate the assistance:)

keep it up

you can do it! the more you do it, the easier it will get. and eventually you are going to start to feel lots better…
and the 5K will be complete….

Thank you!!! You made my day!! I can’t tell you how much the cheer ment to me!!

Sounds great!!

I’m something like 50 pounds overweight, and I only did one aerobic class every week or two before making my 5k goal in February. I started running one minute and walking two, and just last week I ran 40 minutes straight, so if I can do it, anyone can!

The idea is to start really slow, so that every step of the way you feel proud of yourself. Maybe walking 30 minutes is good for you now, but then you can add some 20- or 30- second runs in there. And I think 30 minutes total three times a week is the best way, but maybe try to make one day a week something different, like bicycling or swimming (or have you tried Aqua Jogging)?

And I think blogging it here is a good idea, too…it’s very encouraging!

Thank you

Thank you. I feel good right now about this goal. Thank you for your instructions. I have been looking for a good way to go about actually accomplishing this goal and I like your approach. I will follow your plan, I like it, it seems managable. Good Luck in your goals.
