Yes, it hurts, though how much depends on where it is. Yes, you have to take care of it a lot. A lot of cleaning, not very much medicine unless it gets infected. The best way to choose your piercer is to talk to people and ask who they’ve used, whether or not they liked them, and why. Oh, and unless you don’t mind a lot of blood and pain, it’s best not to go to someone who says, “I usually do tattoos, not piercings, but I’ve done a few.”

I got a two piercings here, my friend about 7, very very good, clean & professional studio, really great staff how make you feel comfortable. It is in London, but they have a questions page (FAQ), that might help you out.

The piercer will tell you how to clean it, they will give you the cleaning solutions & a routine, different cleansing solutions for different part of the body.
