Originally I’d thought of it as my own book, a long-term project. Low-pressure.

Then it struck me that my dad would love something like this also, and his birthday is close to Father’s Day. I started collecting quotes and images en masse. I spent hours thinking about the best way to incorporate the words with the images.

Then I made the mistake of mentioning the project to my mom, and she said, “Oh. That sounds … nice.” And I totally deflated. I started thinking what a stupid idea it was, like a lopsided clay ashtray, but from a 35-year-old instead of a 6-year-old. It’s dumb, I don’t know why I pay her any mind. Grr.

So I’ve been trying to get back into it, but it won’t be done in time for Father’s Day.
