get off of my lazy ass and do something- anything! (read all 2 entries…)
Drastic changes are ahead!! 3 years ago

I have finally done something!! Starting Monday I am starting classes for the summer. Since I have decided not to use my English degree, I am going back to school to be a nurse. The funny thing is that when I was a Freshman in college, my major was Nursing!! Ironic.

Why the change of heart? Well, both my mom and dad are nurses. I see how much they make. With a small son and the hopes of owning our own home with California housing prices, that is a great incentive. Plus, my mom only works 3 days a week- only 10-12 days a month! Another bonus is that I have the option to do travel nursing (when my son is MUCH older).

So, I have done something atleast. I have to take 5 pre-requesites. In December I apply to the speedy nursing program. Since it is for people who already have degrees, it only takes 4 semesters (one year- 2 summers, a fall, and a spring) to get my BS. Then I have to take 2 classes a semester for 2 years and I will graduate with my masters.

I have registered for my classes, now I have to prepare for the GRE. I am glad to actually be doing something again. And yet another added bonus -losing weight. How you ask? Well, I am going to walk to school everyday (saves gas and no paying for parking) which is 5 miles. Since class is 4 days a week, that is 20 miles a week. Then, class w/ lab is from 10 in the morning until 3 in the afternoon. There is a 15 minute break, but no more munching all day long!!

I am so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nursing is a great field

Good nurses can make all the difference in someone’s life (besides it being a good way to earn a good living) and I wish you the best in your studies and new field!
