My great-aunt had a tradition with me that for every birthday she would buy us tasty picnic lunchs with sandwiches, chips, and cookies and we could picnic anywhere I liked. One year I chose a graveyard.
Okay, it sounds depressing. But this is a graveyard from the 1800’s which was used by an Irish settlement. It’s on the top of a hill form which you can look all over the countryside. The graves are so old they are practically part of the earth itself. Wild tiger lilies and other flowers creep around the graves and large oak trees reach high above. It’s so peaceful and beautiful there. It’s as if you’re the first person who be temporarily allowed to live in someone else’s private oasis.
It was definitely worth doing.
