learn to play an instrument
piano vs. keyboard

are there many differences between learning to play piano or keyboard? i want to learn how to play piano, but i dont have one and i cant afford lessons (or a piano!). but i found a keyboard in my parents garage (i’m 17) and i was wondering what the differences are, if one is harder, or something. if anyone knows anything i’d really appreciate it. thanks!

a piano is JUST a piano

I really don’t think so. I think a piano is JUST a piano and a keyboard has different sounds. You can change the sounds so that they sound like drums or a clarinet, or whatever. But a piano is just a piano.

i really couldnt think of any differences between the two either (except a keyboard has about half the keys and all the extra noises), but since i know absolutely nothing about music, i thought it couldnt hurt to ask.

Just dynamics

The only real difference is that you can produce proper dynamics with a piano, whereas with a keyboard you have to remain at the same volume (well you can change the volume, but not in the middle of a piece).
