Classic movies

I remember a few years ago watching auntie mame and loving it. I loved the filming and acting.

Last night I turned the tv to the TMC channel and watched Mr. Skeffington, starring bette davis. It was amazing. Movies today just do not capture that passion or film style…not sure if a film could capture that today. I want to try and watch an old movie at least once a week. It’s amazing to watch a movie that older than my mother and to think of a time when my grandmother would have been a young woman….if I could travel back I would be in the 30’s and 40’s in a second.

HobokenMartha FRINGE.

try Preston Sturges' classic comedies!

The Lady Eve, starring Henry Fonda and Barbara Stanwyck…a con woman and her himbo prey.

Or: The Palm Beach Story…sharpwitted woman divorces himbo husband…only to discover…

Anyway, Sturges’ films are full of sharp women and slightly goofy men and gorgeous clothes…

And he invented kiss-proof lipstick!

thanks!

I will have to check those out. The last one I wantch on the TCM or TMC channel was Mr. Skeffington, it was with bette davis, wow what a great movie! We just dont get that passion in todays films!

Thanks for the tip!

that is great

OH yes I love auntie mame, I have seen it so many times, I could see it 100 more. Fabulous movie!

I really like Bette and Barbara Stanwyck, I saw half of a movie the other night with joan crawford…can’t remember the name and it was good. (the part I saw anyway!)

I think it’s great that you have that as a goal on your list! Good luck in that goal! :-)

Keep it up

I send my niece and nephew cards on every holiday that is marked on a calendar. (I am crazy card aunt) I try to take them to new things (things they won’t experience with their parents, which isn’t much actually!)

I recently took them to a fondue restaurant and they LOVED it. I love the ice cream idea! I might try that one out!

old movies

I am still following this! I watched an audrey hepburn marathon last night! It was so great. I love her acting. she was just so cute and beautiful.
-Sabrina (very cute) (and during a dance scene my husband walked in and started watching it with me! Then he got up and took my hand and we danced to the movie music…He’s so wonderful)

- A nun’s story (good and informative)

- roman holiday (loved it!)

And tomorrow night my sister and I are going to Breakfast at Tiffany’s at the outdoor theatre. Can’t wait!

Roman Holiday

I was wondering if the scene in Roman holiday at the mouth of truth was real. I guess it was!
“The Bocca della Verita might’ve been a Roman drain before it was moved to S. Maria in Cosmedin’s wall. It is said that the hands of liars will be cut off if placed within the mouth (hence the name). To keep the superstition alive, the caretaker-priest used to stick a scorpion in the back of the mouth to sting the fingers of suspected fibbers. The Bocca made a cameo in “Roman Holiday”; during the filming, Gregory Peck stuck his hand in the mouth and jokingly hid his hand in his sleeve when he yanked it out, causing in Audrey Hepburn a shock. The scene wasn’t scripted, but it worked so well that it was kept in the movie.”

The lines in the old movies are so great. “A woman happy in love burns a soufflé , a woman unhappy in love forgets to turn on the oven.” What a great line from Sabrina.

Tyrone Power

Watched a few black and whites this weekend. A couple with Tyrone Power, he was a very handsome man, I liked his acting too. I watched daytime wife and cafe metropole. This is a nice little hobbie.

A few weekends ago Sci Fi had a day of Twilight zones! That was amazing, I love that show, so simple and short, but I like the stories. “Two” was one of my fav’s with elizabeth montgomery and charles bronson! WOW.

Black & White Movies Are The Best

I am going to try to find some of the older titles and check them out. I love Audrey Hepburn. She is one of my favorite all time actresses. I do agree that the older movies have such style and give you the same emotions such as fear, love, passion, suspense, etc…without grossing you out with some over the top sex scene or slasher violence…it takes so much more skill let the viewer experience the emotion in their imagination than in some steamy bedroom scene. The romance is some of these old movies is just plain amazing! It is steamy in it’s own right…the glamour and the hot leading men… What style! I love it! :-)

So true

I started watching a movie while at the gym the other night and never caught the name. It was beautiful. The acting and locations…

I agree “What style”!!!

Audrey is amazing. I love all of her movies.

Imagination is soo under rated these days!
