Who chooses what you can see on the internet???

With recent decisions by the FCC and provisions of the yet to be approved by the Senate COPE Act… You won’t have the right to choose. Your Cable/Telecom providor will be permitted to control which movies you can see. They will control with Voice services you can use. They will control which Channels you can see. This might seem like a “Ho Hum”... since we’ve been living with this kind of control here in the US for a little while… But what’s new is that they will be allowed to control your access to other things like:
- Politically Sensitive Websites
- They would be allowed to create bundled content and block competing content (like deciding that they only wanted to offer Fox News on your Cable Service and block everyone else.)
- Stop carrying Public Access channels
- Block your access to iTunes Music Store because Microsoft contracted to offer Music services through your ISP.
- Block access to Craig’s List because they have their own “pay for” classified ads system.
This is about so much more than charging for tiered service… its about dramatically increasing the profits of the massive Telecoms so that the Execs get bigger bonuses.
One must understand this is a direct challenge on Freedom and Democracy that gives the Telco/Cable giants the power and permission to control what you can see, read, hear, and do.
