i started off my freshman year of college weighing 118 lbs. then within four months i gained 22 lbs. simpley because i started eating more than once a day and wasn’t exersizing (i played hs field hockey for three years). i quit drinking soda for awhile cause in the past that was a quick way to loose ten lbs. but it didnt help. i lost about 8 – 10 lbs since then but yeah. its just a bitch you know? i mean i’m 5’5” and when i was 118 lbs. i thought that was a lot. now… i wouldnt mind that lol. my entire house is stocked with lean cuisines and thats about it. we really dont go grocery shopping. any ideas of what else is healthy to eat? i’ve honestly never been on a long term nutrious kick in my entire life.

muddart is really, really tired, but can't sleep

I can Relate...

Maybe it wasn’t meant to be humorous, but when I saw your list, it had: “lose weight” and “come to terms with the fact that I will never lose weight” back-to-back. It just struck me as humorous, perhaps because I can relate to having conflicting goals.

Oh yeah, it’s not always easy. Females in particular can have a harder time, because we naturally have less muscle mass than men, and a lower metabolism. Almost have to add an exercise routine in order to make progress—strength training can help by increasing muscle mass and thus increasing the metabolism.

I would not knock yourself down...

you will lose weight, it’s just mind over matter. Right now your probably concentrating on studying more and to satisfy studying you are eating more and more.

If all you do is study and no exercise, yes, you will gain weight. Your body is just taking in calories, if there is nothing to burn them off then you gain weight. it’s just as simple as calories in, calories out. The more you input the more you gain.

Ways to eat healthier, well you might want to check out Spark People for some motivation, nutrition and exercise tips. Even in college, they must have an exercise room, activities that allow you to burn off calories? If yu just eliminated sugar in coffee, you could lose 10 pounds a year, I have read. Subsitute candy with fruit or banana chips, dried fruit instead of chips, drink more fruit juices, more fish, less hamburgers and pizza. The sky ios the limit.

Plus, don’t think of your weight as the defeating factor. This is a trap set up by men in the fashion industry. Think about why do many women, and men, have this notion that being fat makes them outcasts in today’s society? Many women see the media, see fashion magazines of super models, actresses on the TV runway shows, all show the thin women models and cast this image of what is supposed to be beautiful. This fear of gaining a few pounds puts panic into some women to lose weight, to create this goal, sorry I had to mention it, fearing some people will laugh at you for gaining a few pounds and emnbaress you into depression. That’s why we have this thinness problem in our elementary schools with girls dieting at the age of 10 years old! Some become anorexic purging. I read last week that a former super model dies from anorexia, this is sad.

So, my advice is not get so worried that you will never lose weight, you will lose it, if you are willing to believe in yourself and want to live a healthier lifestyle. But, please don’t become obcessed over this, I don’t think you really are, I am just making a statement.

Your a beautiful young lady and I believe in you. Keep studying hard, exercise, maybe taking a yoga class or pilates’ class 3 times a week, daily stretching, eat healthier, drink more water, read the spark notes and you will be on your way. Take care.
