it is particularly bad for the last few nights… i keep waking up. no idea, why they bother me so.

I like the power and energy of the storms.. but am very familiar with the effects of lightning. We actually had a guy who was struck on his motorcycle by lightning locally and that was all she wrote. Pretty spooky stuff.
I suspect that there is some primeval trigger in us that secretly makes us crave the storm and fear it as well. Water brings life and death as does the lightning which can make fire to warm us or to burn us.
Maybe there is something in us that hearkens back to that time when we lived in forests or caves and craved the fire that the storm brought.
