"The biggest improvement to my body in my lifetime!"
How I did it: Firstly, I realised I was overweight; very overweight. Sure, I ate *kind of healthy* before I was overweight, but not healthy enough.
So, searching through my whole kitchen, all the lousy foods, high in fat, high in carbohydrates, high in sodium, high in pretty much anything, I got rid of. This was mainly not to eat better, but to help me lose weight.
I bought the natural stuff first;
didn’t go to the supermarkets, found close by fruit and veggie markets, those kinds of stores...
I found about three, all close, and all relatively cheap. If I bought the same stuff at the supermarket, depending on what I bought, I'd save about $10, or be about equal.
The food was tastier; it "just tasted healthier".
Cucumber, carrots, lettuce... All the vegies I enjoyed I bought.
Even the ones I never liked, I bought.
I hated cabbage!
Now... After buying it and using it in different ways (preparing it differently) it just all worked well.
Fruit was easy... Because I LOVE all fruits pretty much.
I usually keep a lot of apples, strawberries, kiwi fruit, mandarins and pineapples close by, and in high stock in my house.
Realise... That just because some foods are bad for you, doesn't mean you CANT eat them.
Try a low-fat option;
there are these Ice creams called Skinny Cow (I think) and they are a LOT healthier than regular ice cream.
Biscuits, corn crackers are both very good selections. Plain corn crackers are great (I think over my life of eating such bad food has made pretty much anything PLAIN taste good...)
So, the Plain corn crackers are fine for me, I enjoy them without any topping
Lessons & tips:
- If you're hungry, eat.
- Drink constantly... Water or cordials usually.
- Limit coffee.
- Try new fruits or vegies
- Try cooking things yourself instead of getting take out
- Do it with people - It is so much easier if you and your family do it; Team work is easier. (If one person eats unhealthy food, you're probably, like I did a few times.. break and eat the unhealthy foods in a high amount)
- If you are craving something, try to see if you can make it healthier. e.g. Veggie and ham home made pizza, instead of take out meat lovers pizzas
