How to pay my bills on time
"I use cash and save for rainy days."
How I did it: It's sort of nerdy, but it WORKED for me...
Every time the ATM gives me a brand new bill or bills (in perfect condition, consecutive serial number order is best). I stick them in a plastic holder, then throw them in a shoe box.
For some reason, my collection makes it easy to save. In the plastic holders it doesn't burn a hole in my pocket. I live as-if I'm broke, but have several months expenses saved (emergency fund) and plan to use the extra money for travel some day.
I've also purchased currency to keep as a long term investment.
Lessons & tips: Paying with cash makes me more aware of my spending than using my debit card. Collecting currency takes up less space than other collections. When money gets tight - I occasionally have to spend some of my collection - so I'm careful how much I spend!
