How I did it: I started applying for jobs last Thursday. I applied at four restaurants, but one of them really stood out to me. When I walked in it just felt comfortable, like something clicked and it was right. After praying, I really felt like this was the workplace for me. I just wasn't sure which position I would get.

I turned in only one application and it was to that restaurant. The owner talked to me for five minutes and read my application. He asked me questions, like if I was interested in a food prep job. This was much better than I had expected, because I was prepared for a table busser position or something like that. He told me to come back in for an interview later.

Today was the day of my interview. I walked in tall and confident. After asking me about my previous work and talking to me about cooking, he hired me as a line cook.

I've only had one job before this one as a kitchen assistant, but I was eager to learn skills in the kitchen and I think my passion for cooking came across, or my willingness to learn.

I really just have God to thank for this. It was like the doors were wide open for me and I firmly believe His hand was upon me, helping me.

Lessons & tips: Stand up straight and smile. Look everyone in the eyes.

Prayer was quite helpful for me. I asked God for a great job and the confidence to go get it. As someone who was previously shy for years, it totally worked.
