How to plan a successful sweet sixteen by gypsyroad

"Most stressful thing I've done in a few weeks, but definitely worth it!"

How I did it: Basically, my friend and I came up with this plan to sleep over on the trampoline in my garden, and to decorate the whole garden with lamps, ribbons, sweets and the such. Great idea, until we found out that it was going to rain for the next two weeks. This was one week into planning, so we just spontaneously moved it to the cellar, where we have a really large room. We decorated it with all manner of pink things (I personally never liked the colour, but since it wasn't my party, I wasn't allowed to choose), the table, the walls, the chairs, the sofa-bed, the floor, EVERYTHING!

Then the birthday girl to be's mother said that she wanted to do something during the day (she was SO annoying, first she'd ask us to plan everything, then she'd disagree with what we planned), so now we were up for organising two parties - one thing to keep the mother happy, another to make my friend (from hereon called "L") happy.
We came up with the perfect plan - we would take our friend to the restaurant, thinking it was just us three, then when she'd get there, we'd all be like "SURPRISE!" and she's be all like "AWW THANKS!!", then we would blindfold her and take her to my place, where, "DOUBLE SURPRISE!".
Sounds good, I suppose. On the day, aka yesterday, we discovered that she really didn't want to come. Great. "Hey everyone, glad you could all make it, by the way, the birthday girl isn't coming."
It took us forEVER to persuade her to go to the restaurant, but we finally made it. Then we went to the train stop, blindfolded her, and the others led her around in circles whilst I went home to get everything prepared.  It was great, and we filmed a great part of it, so we're gonna make a DVD :)

Lessons & tips: If you're planning it with a friend, let them panic. If something starts to go wrong, just try to fix it best you can, if that doesn't work, talk to someone who can help you fix it.

Try not to base it on one colour only - I can now not stand the sight of pink anymore.

Resources: Well, we had:

pink ribbon
pink wrapping paper
pink serviettes
a chocolate cake (made by sticking mascarpone in between two slabs of brownies - easiest thing in the world, and tastes great!) covered in pink icing (just mix lemon, powder sugar and a drop or two of red food colouring)
a papier-mache elephant (took me two weeks to make), obviously pink.
