How I did it: The shadow box is made from lock mitered components. The sliding mechanism is basically a full extension drawer slide made of wooden gliders that ride on the shadow box, and metal support beams that extend out of the body of the box. The picture frame then attaches to the gliders.
Lessons & tips: No matter how many ways you can imagine screwing this up, there is always at least one more.
