How to do a scavenger hunt
How I did it: Sophomore year of college: three of my friends and I began by simply sketching out a design on paper of where to hide index cards with clues on them all over the city.
We made rhyming riddles on five cards and on the 6th card, we put "return to our apartment for your prize" where we celebrated with ice cream and beer (good combination lol) and the third season of How I Met Your Mother dvds.
After slipping the first card in our friend's mailbox, our six other friends solved the riddles to find each index card: first underneath the Burger King drive thru sign, second underneath a blow up pool at Walmart, third behind the hilarious and scary movie Teeth at Blockbuster (weirdest, worst acting, most disturbing, funniest movie ever), fourth underneath the bleachers at a baseball park, fifth under the bench at a local park around a lake, and finally the sixth card buried in a plastic bag in the dirt outside of the mall's movie theater.
It took about two hours for my group to come up with and hide the clues and another two hours for our six other friends to pile into a car and go hunting.
This may not be classified as a scavenger hunt, but it was so much fun!
Lessons & tips: Have your cell phone with you for your friends to call if they get lost or confused.
Resources: Index cards, plastic bags to put cards in case it rained (which it did for us), creative minds, and some cool friends :)
