How I did it: I went to several concerts in Houston over a period of years, and it takes a while to plan a trip -- especially during the summer.  We had to make sure we had a hotel that was within walking distance of the venue and knew where we were going downtown.  I'd like to explore some more of downtown in the future, and I've gone to Houston with friends as well.  There is so much to do there.

Lessons & tips: Have a Houston map and a Texas map with you, even if you have a GPS -- it helps to get your bearings as to where you're going.  Expect freak road construction, and Houston tends to flood a lot when it rains.  If there's a hurricane coming in when your concert is scheduled, call the hotel -- they may be able to reschedule you for the date when the concert is rescheduled.

Resources: Having a GPS is wonderful.  Pack light, be prepared to walk.  Check out hotel deals before you go.
