How to dye wool with Kool-Aid
"Colorful and fun!"
How I did it: I had some undyed Corridale Cross roving from when I first learned how to spin. I used Kool-Aid, vinegar, and my microwave to dye it lots of pretty colors!
Lessons & tips:
- Wear gloves, or your hands will turn pretty colors, too!
- Vinegar helps set the color more quickly
- Mixing colors is really fun
- One packet of Kool-Aid will dye about 1oz of wool
- You can do it in the microwave, crockpot, or on the stove
- Wear an apron
- Kool-Aid only works for dyeing animal fibers (unless, of course, you're wearing a brand-new, expensive, white cotton blouse, in which case, Murphy's Law applies)
- Only use UNSWEETENED Kool-Aid, or you will get a charred, sticky mess!
- A turkey baster is useful for dyeing small areas different colors

- I bought the Kool-Aid at my local grocery store, but I'm told that there's always plenty for sale on eBay if it's not available in your area.
