Gorgeous transformation, Georgina!
Thanks for the pics and tips. Inspiring!
How I did it: For budget reasons, I tried to figure out what I could live with. Cabinets were very sturdy and a good layout, but dark and depressing, so I decided to paint them white. Floor was ok. So that meant everything else wasn't! I picked granite countertops and stainless steel appliances for resale value (and cause they look cool!)
I'd been thinking design-wise on this for years. Decided on black granite counters and a apple-green for the walls to make the white cabinets pop.

Lessons & tips: As a single woman, it was a bit daunting to take on this task but very rewarding! It's amazing how many details there are to sort through and research to do when buying for example a new sink and faucet or a refrigerator. Although it seemed like there was always something going wrong, I tried to not freak out and keep plodding ahead.
Resources: Angie's List is GREAT for finding local service people. I found a fantastic plumber, electrician, handyman, and an ok painter (see posts!)
Home Depot for granite countertops and refrigerator. Sears for range. Internet shopping for everything else: range hood, sink, faucet, hardware, bar stools etc.
Mike I'm an INTJ. Guess I should give that some thought.
I love the clock. It goes well with the stainless steel appliances. I also like how you’ve got HUGE windows in your kitchen! Too often natural light takes a back seat to more functional concerns (like a row of cabinets on the wall).

I’m still loving it and I have been known to dance around while cooking and holding a glass of wine!
I am slowly working on my kitchen, and I have white cabinets and a black countertop, too. So I am diggin’ this post, very inspirational!

vwruleschick seriously?! i think i am addicted to www.goodreads.com
nice pic of your newly renovated kitchen.
I did the same, I went high gloss white cabinets, black but sparkly granite countertops and dark slate-like ceramic tiles(heated and so worth it) floors. All appliances were stainless steel and for a punch of color we installed a Kartel Fly lamp (red).
I love your color choice of the rich green on your walls – we went with white subway tiles as our backsplash.
What’s your next project?

I still love it and can’t believe it’s been a year already! Since then I did my entryway, siding and gutters, so now I’m broke :) I desperately need to do my bathroom, but I guess I’ll have to live in the 70s a bit longer!

That isn’t too bad – the 70’s, when we bought our place about 2 years ago it was early 80’s – dark brown carpet, dusty rose walls, oak and brass everywhere and brown & green bathrooms. Ewwwww!
Now our place is in the 21st century with some nicely added touches of recessed lighting in the entry hallway, heated tile flooring in the entry, kitchen and all the bathrooms. Soaker tub with bubbles in the main bath(one of bug splurges), shower with jets and all Engery Star appliances from LG.
It took us a better part of 18 months to complete from start to finish, well 98% finish, we will need some railings for the stairs and closets for the master bedroom, and one last coat of paint. We are finished and we have been enjoying this summer as we haven’t been working on our place rather living in it his year. Hehehehe
TangerineRose "find a job" is my goal that most needs cheers ;)
a kitchen that nice, I would be cooking up a storm all the time :) Looks great!

Thanks!! I really love it. I’m glad I renovated it a few years ago, so I had time to enjoy it before I sold the house (which I’m about to do..)
