How to go roller skating.
"Attended the local roller derby meet with a friend, learned to skate and had a blast!!!"
How I did it: My friend told me about weekly roller derby meets that were being held at the YMCA.
I got together my helmet and money for the entrance fee and went down to check it out.
My friend and I laced up our rental skates and teetered onto the gym floor. We were pretty bad. Luckily, an experienced skater was willing to take the time to teach us how to skate, stop and fall safely. We learned about the rules of an official derby competition, and we were able to practice skating and stopping. It was a lot harder than I expected it to be, but I did improve. I wasn't terribly skilled, but I had a damn fun time doing it
Lessons & tips: Get an experienced skater to teach you, it is invaluable to your success.
It would be best to get your own skates, even used ones. That way, you can get the feel of the skates and how they will "behave"
Resources: money-to get into the classes
my friend for telling me about the classes
deodorant- you get very sweaty and grimy
a helmet and padding (if the place can't provide them to rent)
