How to get a library card
"Much easier and far less time-consuming that I expected. "
How I did it: Instead of buying a book for an upcoming project, I decided to save money and get a library card. I went online to the public library Web site, signed up for an account, reserved the book I needed and made time in my schedule the following day to pick up the book and my new library card.
Lessons & tips:
- Next time you need a specific book search the local library's Web site or call the reference desk to find out if the title if available.
- Be sure to check the public library's Web site, or ask the reference desk, for instructions on how to obtain a library card. You may be able to sign up online in a matter of minutes.
- Schedule time the following day or weekend to retrieve your library card and books.
- If you recently moved, ask what types of documents are acceptable in serving as proof of residence. I had to bring a utility bill showing my current name and address since my driver's license address wasn't up to date.
