How I did it: My friend Jeff is a ceramics major, and he took my boyfriend and me to the school's art studio one night to play around with clay.  I ended up messing mine up, but it was so much fun!  I'm going to try to trick him into taking me back over there at least once a week... :)  Nothing feels as good as the wet clay spinning between your fingers.
