How to cross Country Road Trip
How I did it: Realizing the only way to be secure that you have enough time, money, etc to take a long trip is to
JUST DO IT! I learned this lesson long ago.
I wanted to travel this year take an extended vacation. The last 2 yrs I was able to fly using a frequent flyer points free trip - but this yr no such luck. I believe in the Law of Attraction and the way it works is to live as if you already have enough-- so that is what I did.
I know I wanted to take a trip the time seemed to open up I had about 3 weeks before I had to begin a new project, a perfect window of opportunity and so I took it!!
I usually go through days of planning, but this time I didnt plan. I decided I wanted to go on Monday and left on Friday! I threw my maps, guidebooks, and planning materials in the car along with my camping gear, food, and cooler and away I went....It was a leap of faith.
I had a wonderful trip--I drove from my home in SC to AZ and spent 4 nights and 5 days getting there stopping along the way to spend time photographing, hiking, and sightseeing along Old Historic Route 66 for one thing.
Then I spent 5 days with a friend in AZ and we spent 2 nights out camping under the stars in Tonto National Forest near the Superstition Wilderness!
Then I headed north to visit my Sis-I spent another 2 nights on the road and went to see the Meteor Crater--
I spent a few days with my sister and then we spent 4 days traveling together and visited ZION N.Park..then
I drove back to SC spending 3 nihgts on the road!!
5, 049 miles and 23 days of fun and travel adventure!!!
Lessons & tips: I should have planned my route a little better, I did some backtracking that was unnecessary and I missed a couple of fantastic spots,
- The Petrified Forest National Park,
- Sugauro National Mon.,
- Sunset Crater Volcanic Natl. Mon.
Resources: I used the interent to search rooms, and priceline.com to get reduced rates on rooms! I always check the area and see what kinds of motels are there, get the rate for the room I want..say a 4 star motel in that town, and bid what I want to pay. I bid $47 a night and won that bid for a room that I had checked previously in a Best Western Town n Country that went for $69 A NIGHT--cool beans
I used a Motel 6 guide book to plan my nights stays along the route I was traveling, also I find those Discount coupon booklets and Flyers at rest stops to be very worthy of picking up...last yr we got discounted rooms in Page, AZ using that coupon! SO Pick those booklets, and flyers up along the way!!
