How to go to Yosemite
How I did it: Reserving a camp site in the valley is nearly impossible. For two years running I have been on the website at 7:00 on the dot to reserve a site and by 7:02 the site is jammed. By 7:05 all the sites are gone. It really sucks to plan and plan for a trip and then be blocked out of camp sites. While you *can* show up at 6am and hope to get a site the day of, since not all sites are released on line, this was impractical for part of our party who were flying in, so we booked Curry Village tent cabins for $115 a night (ouch) for a week and then reserved a few camping nights at Wawona, which is outside the valley.
The Curry Village cabins are basic, which is fine but the showers are awful. Dirty, Crowded etc--what you might deal with for $20 a night camping, but not $115.
Worse yet, we didn't realize that there is NO COOKING in Curry Village, which meant we could eat cold cereal in the morning and make lunch by the bear box, but had to eat dinner at the cafeteria. At $15 a meal and $2.50 a coffee every monrinnb this adds up.
Lessons & tips: Curry Village sucks for 1. showers 2. sleeping 3. food. However, it was worth it to my party just to have a reservation, which we booked before the 15th release date for campsites.
The only thing this place has going for it is location, which is admittedly superb.
Resources: I RECOMMEND booking at House Keeping Camp also available before the 15th release date, which for a similar cost has
small open-air cottages and you can cook there.
